In the heart of South Africa's breadbasket, the Overberg region, a different story unfolds. Behind the lush wheat fields and fruitful orchards, a community struggles to make ends meet. The Caledon Overberg Rise Against Hunger Scheme is dedicated to providing essential nutrition to those in need.
The Reality:
Gently rolling hills hide the harsh realities of hunger and poverty. Families, once sustained by the land, now struggle to put food on the table. The pandemic of hunger threatens to undermine the region's potential.
Feeding 4000 People Every Month:
To provide sustenance for our community, we require:
- Staple Foods:
- 8,000 loaves of bread (200 loaves/month x 4000 people/4 weeks)
- 6,000 kg of rice (150 kg/month x 4000 people/4 weeks)
- 3,000 kg of maize meal (75 kg/month x 4000 people/4 weeks)
- Protein Sources:
- 2,400 kg of beans (60 kg/month x 4000 people/4 weeks)
- 1,200 kg of chicken or fish (30 kg/month x 4000 people/4 weeks)
- Dairy and Essentials:
- 12,000 liters of milk (300 liters/month x 4000 people/4 weeks)
- 1,200 kg of cheese or dairy alternatives (30 kg/month x 4000 people/4 weeks)
- Fresh Produce:
- 1,200 kg of vegetables (30 kg/month x 4000 people/4 weeks)
- 1,200 kg of fruits (30 kg/month x 4000 people/4 weeks)
- Pantry Essentials:
- Cooking oil
- Spices
- Sugar
- Salt
- Flour
- Beverages:
- Juice or powdered drink mixes
- Tea or coffee
